BIS Certification is
granted by Bureau of Indian Standards. This is basically a guarantee of the quality and reliability of a product
provided by a third party i.e. BIS. Bureau of Indian Standard is one of the
most. Nowadays there is a high level of
consumer awareness in the market and everyone looks for quality assurance of
the products they are purchasing. This assurance is granted through BIS Certification which is granted after proper
conducting proper inspection and testing by the accreditation units affiliated
by the Bureau. This certification by BIS has been made mandatory for many
products under the product certification
scheme. For remaining products, this
certification can be applied for on a voluntary
basis.

Domestic
manufactures
following are the different schemes provided by the Bureau for BIS
Certification;
Under
this procedure, the applicant is required
to submit the application along with prescribed fees and documents. Once the
application is received preliminary factory evaluation is conducted by the Bureau’s Officer. Next step is sample testing,
this involves factory as well as independent testing. If the results of the
testing are positive BIS Certification is granted. This entire procedure is
completed in around 4 months.

Simplified Procedure
Under
this method, the applicant acquires
testing reports from a BIS approved lab and files it as an enclosure along with
the application. The BIS officer conducts factory premises verification and I
satisfied BIS certification is granted. This reduces the application processing
time to 30 days.
3.
Eco Mark Scheme
Under
this scheme, Eco-friendly products are
covered. Under this scheme, there are
certain additional requirements specified that are to be fulfilled.
